Checking Soil and Water Flow
Auckland clay can swell, shrink and hold water, which is hard on a driveway. We look at your soil and how water moves across the site before deciding how to prepare it.
Driveway Preparation
Driveway subgrade dug, graded and base-prepped for concrete, asphalt, gravel or pavers on Auckland properties.
Planned properly. Finished tidy.
A strong, long-lasting driveway depends on proper groundwork, and that is where we come in. Our driveway preparation in Auckland includes excavation, removal of old surfaces, grading, base compaction and shaping for correct falls and drainage.
We prepare sites for concrete, pavers, asphalt, gravel and exposed aggregate, ensuring the base is firm, level and ready for the finishing trade. Our operators measure carefully, working to your plans and council requirements to avoid costly rework later.
We also dispose of spoil and debris, leaving the site clean and ready to go. By getting the base right the first time, you protect your investment and avoid cracking, sinking and water pooling. Call today for a free, no-obligation quote and a reliable start to your driveway project.
Auckland clay can swell, shrink and hold water, which is hard on a driveway. We look at your soil and how water moves across the site before deciding how to prepare it.
We excavate deep enough for the base course your chosen surface needs. Too shallow and the driveway settles or cracks; we make sure there’s room to build it properly.
The base is placed in layers and compacted to spec. A firm, well-compacted base is what stops ruts, sinking and cracks showing up once the cars start using it.
We shape the falls so rain runs off where it should, away from the garage and house, rather than pooling on the drive or heading toward your foundations.
You’re left with a level, compacted base, so the concreter, asphalt layer or paver can start laying without any further groundwork.
We can line up our finish date with your concrete or paving contractor, so the prepared base isn’t left sitting exposed to the weather for weeks.
Often booked alongside Site Preparation, Land Clearing, Vegetation Removal, Grass Removal and other prep work where access, levels and a tidy handover count. It all sits within our site preparation and groundwork work.
We pick the machine and attachments only once we have looked at access, reach, the ground, how much material is moving and the finish you need.
What applies depends on Auckland Council, your property and the job. Any approvals, beforeUdig locating and site controls need confirming before we start.
What drives the cost
Every site is different. Here is what makes the biggest difference to a driveway preparation quote.
Where the base has to go deeper to carry the load or sort out water, there’s more digging and more material. Firm, free-draining ground keeps that to a minimum.
Auckland clay can be soft or wet in places, and those patches may need extra compaction or stabilising before the base goes down, which adds to the bill.
A long driveway, or one with curves, turning bays and parking pads, takes more preparation and more base than a short straight run to the garage.
Setting proper falls and adding channel or subsoil drains during prep makes the driveway last, but it’s extra scope and the price reflects it.
What we bring
Getting a driveway ready involves digging, base material and drainage, and we supply and manage every one of those ourselves. Rather than you hiring one company to dig, another for the sand or basecourse and a third for drainage, we bring everything needed to prepare the site properly in a single visit. Your concreter or paver can then start as soon as we leave, without gaps between unrelated contractors slowing the job down.
What is covered
Driveways fail from the base up. This scope sets out exactly which layers underneath are ours.
Why work with us
What sits under a driveway decides how long the surface lasts, which is why the preparation stage matters so much. We check the soil and drainage first, dig to the right depth, compact the base properly and build in the falls that carry water away once the surface is down. With our own machines and base material, the full preparation is usually done in a single visit, leaving the site ready for your concreter, asphalt layer or paver to start straight away.
If it helps, we line our timing up with your surfacing contractor so the changeover between our work and theirs runs smoothly. Having prepared driveways on all sorts of Auckland properties, we know how the local clay moves through wet winters and dry summers, and what base work stops cracks and dips appearing later. Getting this part right protects the money you’re about to spend on the surface itself.
Getting the site ready
Driveway prep means trucks coming and going all day. These four keep that route open the whole time.
Move cars, wheelie bins and anything else off the driveway footprint. Digging and material drops depend on a free run in and out right through the prep.
Water, power and irrigation can cross under or beside a driveway without any sign on the surface. Let us know what you’re aware of before we start digging.
Show us the finished width, curves and edges you want. Knowing the exact layout before excavation means the prepared base matches the drive you have in mind.
Expect truck deliveries and machine noise during prep. A quick word with neighbours, particularly on a shared right-of-way, keeps things running without friction.
Where we work
Driveway preparation is steady work in older Auckland suburbs replacing worn-out driveways, and in new subdivisions where homes are getting their very first one.
Wherever your property is in the Auckland region, we can prepare your driveway.
Common questions
We work right across metropolitan Auckland, and regional or rural jobs can be looked at case by case. Include your suburb when you ask for a quote and we’ll confirm whether we can help.
Not always. Simpler jobs can often be priced from plans and photos, but sites with awkward access or a complicated scope are usually worth a visit first.
It depends on Auckland Council’s rules, your property and the scope of the job. Check what applies before anything starts—we can help you work out what to ask the council.
We cover residential, rural, commercial and civil work. Whether a particular job suits us comes down to access, programme, the plant needed and the confirmed scope.
