Checking the Turf and Soil
Kikuyu with deep runners needs a different approach from a thin couch lawn. We look at the grass, how far the roots go and how wet the clay is before deciding on a method.
Grass Removal
Lawn and turf lifted cleanly ahead of new landscaping, driveways, building platforms or a full redevelopment.
Planned properly. Finished tidy.
Whether you are laying a new driveway, building a pad or starting fresh with a new landscape, removing existing turf is an essential first step. We offer professional grass removal in Auckland using efficient machinery that strips lawn, weeds and surface growth quickly and evenly.
Our operators remove the turf layer at the correct depth, helping you avoid uneven ground, poor drainage and future settlement problems. We can handle small residential lawns, large rural paddocks and commercial areas, and we take care to protect nearby paths, gardens, pipes and fences.
All removed material is carted away or can be reused on site where suitable, saving you time and effort. For a fast, tidy and affordable service, contact us today for a free, no-obligation quote.
Kikuyu with deep runners needs a different approach from a thin couch lawn. We look at the grass, how far the roots go and how wet the clay is before deciding on a method.
Small patches can be lifted with a turf cutter or by hand, while larger lawns suit a digger with a flat bucket. Either way, we try not to disturb the soil structure underneath.
With the turf gone, we can level and prepare what’s underneath for pavers, synthetic grass, new garden beds or a building platform, depending on your plans.
All the sods and root mat go off site with us. You won’t be left with a pile of old lawn to get rid of after we’ve packed up.
We work to keep mud off paths and driveways and dust down in dry spells, so the rest of your property stays as clean as practical while the grass comes up.
The finished area is even and prepped, so your landscaper, paver or builder can carry straight on without spending extra time getting the ground right.
Often booked alongside Site Preparation, Land Clearing, Vegetation Removal, Demolition (Residential/Commercial) and other prep work where access, levels and a tidy handover count. It all sits within our site preparation and groundwork work.
We pick the machine and attachments only once we have looked at access, reach, the ground, how much material is moving and the finish you need.
What applies depends on Auckland Council, your property and the job. Any approvals, beforeUdig locating and site controls need confirming before we start.
What drives the cost
Every site is different. Here is what makes the biggest difference to a grass removal quote.
The more lawn there is to strip, the more machine time, labour and turf handling it takes, so a bigger area naturally carries a bigger price.
An old lawn with a thick, deep root mat takes more work to lift cleanly than younger grass that peels away without much resistance.
If you want the soil shaped and prepared for pavers or new turf once the grass is gone, that next step widens the scope beyond a straight strip-out.
Stripped grass and root material adds up quickly. Larger lawns create a lot of green waste, and carting and dumping it is part of what you pay for.
What we bring
Lifting a lawn is usually only the first step before paving, new turf or more landscaping, and that’s where a crew that does it all saves you time. The machinery for digging, levelling and supplying material is already ours, so once the grass is gone we can go straight into getting the ground ready for the next stage. You won’t need a second company to pick up where the first one stopped.
What is covered
Lawn removal is measured by depth as well as square metres, and we confirm both before the machine turns up.
Why work with us
Taking out a lawn properly is about the ground you’re left with, not just lifting the turf. Whether the area is heading for pavers, synthetic grass or new garden beds, we check the soil and root layer first, choose the right machine to strip it cleanly, and remove the green waste as part of the job. Irrigation lines and buried edging are easy to miss once grass has grown over them, so we look for them before starting and work around them carefully.
Homes and commercial sites across Auckland both come through our books, and we adjust how we work to the lawn type and the size of the area. When we leave, the ground is level and free of leftover turf and roots, ready for the next trade to start. Finishing what sits underneath the surface, not just the part you can see, is what makes the difference with our grass removal.
Getting the site ready
Stripping turf goes quickly as long as the machine never has to pause. These four keep it rolling.
Pick up hoses, kids’ toys, outdoor furniture and anything else left on the grass. The machine works best on an open stretch it can move across without stopping to shift things.
Sprinkler heads and irrigation pipe disappear under thick turf. Put a flag on each one you know about so they don’t get torn up with the grass.
If part of the lawn is staying, mark the line where removal stops. That way there’s no guesswork about the scope once the machine is on site.
Turf removal often makes more dust and noise than people expect, and it carries over fences. Letting the neighbours know first keeps everyone on side.
Where we work
Most grass removal jobs come from Auckland’s older, settled suburbs, usually when a backyard is being redone or a home is being renovated.
In newer subdivisions we also lift grass as part of getting a fresh section ready for landscaping.
Common questions
We work right across metropolitan Auckland, and regional or rural jobs can be looked at case by case. Include your suburb when you ask for a quote and we’ll confirm whether we can help.
Not always. Simpler jobs can often be priced from plans and photos, but sites with awkward access or a complicated scope are usually worth a visit first.
It depends on Auckland Council’s rules, your property and the scope of the job. Check what applies before anything starts—we can help you work out what to ask the council.
We cover residential, rural, commercial and civil work. Whether a particular job suits us comes down to access, programme, the plant needed and the confirmed scope.
