Understanding the Dig Before We Start
We check the soil, the depth you need and how we’ll get machines onto the site, so we arrive with the right digger and approach for your home or commercial project.
Excavation
Digging done to plan by experienced operators on modern gear, with access, spoil and levels sorted before we start.
Planned properly. Finished tidy.
Quality excavation is the foundation of every successful construction and landscaping project. We provide professional excavation in Auckland for homes, businesses, farms and civil works, using modern excavators, mini diggers and bobcats to suit each job.
Our experienced operators dig accurately to your plans, levels and specifications, whether you need trenches, footings, pads, pools, drainage or general digging. We assess access, soil conditions and underground services before starting, so the work proceeds safely and without surprises.
Spoil can be removed, reused or spread on site, and we leave your property tidy and ready for the next stage. With dependable scheduling, clear communication and competitive pricing, we make every project easier. Contact us today for a free, no-obligation quote.
We check the soil, the depth you need and how we’ll get machines onto the site, so we arrive with the right digger and approach for your home or commercial project.
Where it helps, our machines use GPS guidance to hit depths and dimensions precisely. That cuts down on over-digging, fixing mistakes and paying to move extra soil.
Dug material is either reused on site as fill or loaded out for disposal. Either way, it’s kept in order so the site stays workable and safe.
We check plans for existing services before we dig and take extra care near known pipes and cables, so we don’t cause damage or outages while excavating.
When the excavation supports a building or structure, we work to the engineer’s depths and dimensions, so your foundation requirements are met.
Once we’re finished, the site is ready for foundations, drainage or the next stage of construction, with no hold-ups caused by unfinished digging.
Often booked alongside Bulk Excavation, Footing Excavation, Basement Excavation, Rural Excavation and other prep work where access, levels and a tidy handover count. It all sits within our excavation sub-services work.
We pick the machine and attachments only once we have looked at access, reach, the ground, how much material is moving and the finish you need.
What applies depends on Auckland Council, your property and the job. Any approvals, beforeUdig locating and site controls need confirming before we start.
What drives the cost
Every site is different. Here is what makes the biggest difference to an excavation quote.
The more cubic metres to come out, and the deeper they go, the more hours the excavator runs and the more material has to be handled.
Basalt floaters or soft, unstable clay slow the dig and may need a breaker or a different machine, which costs more than easy digging.
Where access is tight we may need a smaller excavator and extra handling, which stretches the timeframe and adds to the overall price.
Reusing dug material elsewhere on the property saves money. Trucking it off site and paying to dump it is usually the bigger cost.
What we bring
An excavation job rarely ends when the digging does, because spoil removal, levelling or drainage usually come next, and we already have those covered. Our own excavators, bobcats and tipper trucks let us dig, cart and prepare the site without waiting on a separate carting or levelling contractor. You end up with one accountable crew running the whole excavation instead of several companies and the hope that their timetables line up.
What is covered
You can only compare excavation quotes when depth, spoil and access are spelled out. Ours covers all three.
Why work with us
Nearly every build starts with a dig, and mistakes made at this stage tend to follow the job all the way through. Where it suits the work, we use machine guidance to hit accurate depths and dimensions, cutting down on over-digging and the rework that adds cost and time. Before we break ground we check for existing services, and the spoil is dealt with properly, either reused on site where it’s suitable or carted away.
When the dig supports a particular structure, we work to the engineer’s specifications so the foundation requirements are met from day one. Our excavation work spans homes, commercial sites and rural properties around Auckland, so we understand how much the ground changes from one suburb to the next and adjust accordingly. A simple house-site dig and a complex commercial excavation get the same accuracy and attention, which keeps projects moving.
Getting the site ready
Most digging hold-ups come back to blocked access or a service nobody marked. Both are quick to sort.
The excavator needs to reach the dig without anything in the way. Move cars, stockpiled materials or equipment that would block the path into or around the site.
Mention any pipes, cables or irrigation you know sit near the dig. Even small details help prevent damage once the bucket starts going in.
Peg out how far the excavation goes, particularly near boundaries or existing buildings. Clear marks avoid any doubt about scope once the machine arrives.
Digging brings noise, dust and truck movements with it. Telling neighbours in advance, especially on a tight section, helps the job run without hitches.
Where we work
Excavation work comes from all over Auckland, but the busiest spots are the new subdivisions north and south of the city where building is in full swing.
Renovations and smaller digs in established suburbs throughout the city are part of our regular work too.
Common questions
We work right across metropolitan Auckland, and regional or rural jobs can be looked at case by case. Include your suburb when you ask for a quote and we’ll confirm whether we can help.
Not always. Simpler jobs can often be priced from plans and photos, but sites with awkward access or a complicated scope are usually worth a visit first.
It depends on Auckland Council’s rules, your property and the scope of the job. Check what applies before anything starts—we can help you work out what to ask the council.
We cover residential, rural, commercial and civil work. Whether a particular job suits us comes down to access, programme, the plant needed and the confirmed scope.
